The show moves the setting to the current era
Chronology
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe.. The "Day of the Jackal" novel was set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on the then-President of France Charles de Gaulle.
Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
Yes it's a reboot, but they make a great first of it. Redmayne is fantastic as the cold killer the jackal! Excellent scenery in some beautiful parts of Europe.
Keeps you intrigued the whole way through
The only detractor is the female lead MI6 agent who is bland and unimaginative. Being one of my favourite books, I was sceptical at another remake after the train wreck that was the Bruce Willis move. The day of the jackal, however caught my attention from the beginning and has kept it locked on for the first five episodes.
Overall though a very entertaining series
Hopefully the rest of the season lives up to the first half. A new season of "Silo" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our November calendar for more!
