Oui ceased publication in 2007
Chronology
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minks finally got her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks Hollywood’s starlets, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past… Maxine’s “Oui” shirt is a reference to Oui, an adult male pornographic magazine published in the United States featuring explicit nude photos. The Bette Davis quote shown at the beginning of the film was misquoted.

It’s actually “Until you’re famous in my profession as a monster, you’re not a star.” Maxine Minx: Do you know what happened to the last person who tried to kill me? I crushed her fucking head.. In keeping with the 80’s movie aesthetic, after the credits, “Be Good, Rewind” a sticker is displayed, as with many video rental stores.. Gimme All Your Lovin Written by Frank Beard (as Frank Lee Beard), Billy Gibbons & Dusty Hill (as Joe Michael Hill) Performed by ZZ Top Courtesy of Warner Records By arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & Television Licensing.
All in all it was a good time
Just got back from an early screening and wanted to share a few thoughts. Some of the tone felt more like drama than horror as there are no real tense or scary moments, but I understand that horror isn’t always interpreted that way. If you haven’t seen Pearl, you’ve seen I’ll Be Alright I feel like you’ll need to at least watch X beforehand to understand some of the backstory and references. I really liked the style of the film, that 80’s glam/sleazy look and feel was perfectly nailed.
Mia Goth is always worth watching
Ti West is good at this, as seen in his earlier works, especially House of the Devil. X remains my favorite of the trilogy, but if you’re a fan of the other two films, you’ll love this. The soundtrack, costumes and performances were all done very well. A24 has produced some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
