A modern-day tale of fortune-telling in the world of oil rigs in West Texas
Watch the top movies and TV shows from writer/director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, ranked by user ratings. A landman, at least one, works in the oil industry as a go-between for exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the companies they represent.

They essentially own the land and secure the lease so they can drill for oil and gas. Like foremen on a construction site, they build roads, camp people, set up digging machines, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also fixers, problem solvers, and leaders.
No one on set knows he’s advising him on something so basic
Like the series and everything Taylor Sheridan does, he was a technical advisor wherever he was. Billy Bob wasn’t even holding the pipe wrench properly during the pumper accident. I had to repeat it to him when I couldn’t believe what I just saw.
And a handheld monitor for explosive gases
And the right team at the scene would have the right equipment and know-how. Like a 36″ pipe wrench that a couple of guys could get behind. No one would hit a short pipe wrench with a hammer.
Hell, mark a 2-foot pipe to reach out if that’s all you have
The show, having worked in similar locations, is a far cry from the safety precautions used in the industry, which OSHA says are ridiculous in the books. No one would stand on a truck full of pipes, and no one is tall without a seat belt.
