In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government activities. While searching for answers, the kids uncover a series of extraordinary mysteries. Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, said that the Stranger Things season 4 remix of the 1980s hit Journey, Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), was done pretty much the way he wanted it to be done in the 1980s, but lacked the technology. Within the first 8 minutes of the show, I could tell I had found something special in Stranger Things. Its intriguing storyline moves along at a great pace, and I never felt disoriented or bored, and there were enough twists and turns to keep me interested. It also had some really great horror sequences and their use of flickering lights, while yes, the common theme worked so well with the story that I was on the edge of my seat every time the crackle of electricity would jump through my speakers and the lights would flicker. The characters in the show are the real stars here, I loved every single one of them. They were all great, with incredibly interesting flaws, and the way they mixed and clashed with each other was fun to watch. They certainly help to carry the show, although I would say the government antagonists in the show felt a little flat and underdeveloped and not all that memorable.

God, I loved their music choices

I would say the CGI looks a little obvious and I did notice some issues from time to time when scenes didn’t feel polished. I think I’ve been spoiled with visual quality since Game of Thrones though, so I’d take that criticism with a pinch of salt as it certainly doesn’t detract from the overall experience. The scenery and style of everything in the locations was also great to look at and felt real and interesting. The way everything was shot also captured every moment expertly and really helped bring out those moments in the story with greater emotion. Stranger Things is one of those unique shows that I stumbled upon and knew I was hooked the moment I opened it. Its exciting, dark story is expertly woven into its 8 episode runtime and I know I’ll be back to watch it again.

The ending is wrapped up quite well with a few loose plot threads left hanging with the promise of potential further seasons, but the story wraps up quite satisfyingly towards the end. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopia or making the world a better place, these women are the epitome of science fiction.
