The DC Studios logo is placed in a rainy Gotham alley
Chronology
Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, plays a role that aims to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. From melting makeup to shooting in sub-zero temperatures, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti discuss what it was like to get into character during the production of Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of the Penguin to smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but to no avail. However, in his own series, the character is portrayed as an occasional tobacco user who prefers cigars.
Farrell STEALS this show
The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Graham Norton likes: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). He’s impressive.
The show is gritty and graphic
There’s nothing about this character that even hints at Farrell. The New York dialect, the wobble and limpness, the posture: you could swear it was a different person. The incredible prosthetics are very realistic and add character. There’s nothing cartoonish about it.
Well-written and taut
It’s a great equivalent to Christopher Nolan’s Batman. In fact, I’d say it throws the Marvel line off kilter. I hope there’s a Season 2, but I know this one is limited. It’s a shame.
