Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who is currently living in the Home for Retired Bears. An exciting adventure begins with the Brown family when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey. The director of the previous two films, Paul King, decided not to direct this installment. However, he did come up with the idea for a third film and was involved as an executive producer. Starring: Billy Crystal/Emily Mortimer/Hugh Bonneville/Pharrell Williams/Michael Kiwanuka (2024). Paddington in Peru is a charming, if clichéd, film. Sure, it doesn’t reach the level of Paddington 2, but it’s probably on par with the first. With a different director at the helm, this film also takes a different perspective, moving the action from London and placing it in the jungles of Peru. This is probably a wise choice, because it makes the film feel fresh and different from the other two. It also gives room for a slightly different kind of story, perhaps more adventurous and exciting. It all makes for a pretty interesting story that flows pretty well and keeps a decent pace. The humor is a bit average, but it’s definitely aimed more at kids, which is more of a reflection of my age than anything else. I also think the emotional side is a bit lacking. I remember Paddington 2 making me cry, but this one seems a bit more gentle. I think that’s actually the word that sums up this movie. It’s nice and gentle. Everything in Paddington 2 has been toned down a notch or two, but it’s still a completely enjoyable and enjoyable experience.
